The Randy Glenn Memorial Photo & Video Contest is our annual competition showcasing our talented underwater photographers, videographers and artists. This contest is open to all SeaHorse Dive Club members but everybody is welcome to attend and vote on their favorite entries. The categories are listed below. Besides the classic categories, there are Novice and Art and Club Member categories.

Only SeaHorse Dive Club members are eligible to enter. Winning entries will be featured in the annual SeaHorse Dive Club Photo Contest Calendar.

You may enter as many times as you like in as many categories as you like.

Make Plans to Be There

The contest is held during our October meeting, on the 4th Thursday of October. Whether you enter the contest or not, the Photo Contest is always one of the best events of the year. Voting is done by people at the event, so if you come, you’re part of it!

Prizes

Prizes for category winners will come from local dive vendors like air cards and discounts, and SeaHorse gear from our Dive Locker. In past years, the grand prize for Best in Show has been an outing on Hood Canal with our friends at YSS Dive.

Club Calendars Will Feature Contest Entries

Every year we publish our Randy Glenn Memorial Photo Contest Calendar, which features winners from the various categories. This year is no different.

I’m not a member, can I join?

If you’re not currently a member, you can be. Check out our Membership page for details for how you can join. There are options for both Boeing folks and non-Boeing folks to join our community.

To enter your photo(s), simply bring your prints to the contest. You’ll be asked to fill-out an entry form for each one. You can enter as many as you like and you can even enter a given image in multiple categories, e.g. a great macro shot from the Photoshoot can also be entered in Cold Water Macro.

Each contestant is responsible for their own printing and mounting. For video or music, you must have provide a portable drive containing the file, or a URL to find it online.

Special Category for 2025: Marine Arthropods

The Special Category for the 2026 SeaHorse Photo Contest is Marine Arthropods. Marine Arthropods include shrimp, crabs, sea spiders, horseshoe crabs; they are all marine arthropods. They’re among the most plentiful creatures in the ocean, so they shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Above Water Dive Related

Any above water image related to diving. Sunsets at a dive location, aquatic life on the surface, divers, scenes from the dive boat. This is pretty open. Be creative. This for all of those who don’t own an underwater camera but want to join in the fun.

SeaHorse Club Members

Any image of a club member, either above or below the water. Just like the Special Category, the club member can be the focus of the shot or a face in the crowd.

Art

Any dive related art, whether it’s images or something else. Examples include: composite or digitally altered photos, painting, drawing, music, sculpture, costumes, textile (knitting, crochet, macramé), poetry or other writing, interpretive dance, you name it. If it’s creative, bring it on. However, no AI generated entries please, it must be your own work (beyond entering prompts into an AI engine).

If your work is an image, you must bring a print, if it’s an electronic file, for example a video or a sound file, you need to bring it on a portable drive or provide a URL so it can be played during the contest. If your work is physical, i.e., sculpture, or textiles, or drawing, or painting, you’ll need to bring it to the contest. If it’s original dance choreography, that be prepared to perform it.

Entry Guidelines

  • You must print your own photos and bring them to the contest. You can enter as many as you like but each contestant is responsible for their own printing and mounting (if you choose to do any mounting). You can also enter a given image in multiple categories (e.g., a fantastic macro shot taken at the Photoshoot can be entered in both the Photoshoot and Cold Water Macro categories.) but you must have a print for each category.
    • Print sizes are not mandated, you can print your entries any size you want, but you want people to be able to see them clearly, so we’ve found 5×8 to be the minimum viable size.
    • Mounting, i.e., matting and/or framing is not required, but is encouraged. Good presentation will make your entry more appealing.
  • Try to keep video must be 5 minutes max. There are typically quite a few videos and people need time to watch them to vote.

Voting

  • Winners will be determined by in-person voting at the event. All attendees can vote.
  • Each attendee (members and guests) will get a number of voting stickers to vote for their favorites. Category winners will be those with the most votes. The winning entries in each category will be eligible for “Best of Show”.
  • The judging for “Best of Show” will be done by 3 members of the Sea Horse Executive Board who did not win any category, selecting the best overall entry from the category winners.
  • If any problems or disputes arise during the contest, the photo contest chairman and two executive board members will jointly resolve the issue.
  • Questions? Contact our Photography chair, David Wakeley at photo@seahorsediveclub.com.
