SeaHorse Dive Club Art and Artists – Cal Romaneschi
Cal's club crest

You’ve probably all seen our very cool logo; it’s here on the website and maybe you have a tee-shirt or hat, or coffee mug featuring our logo art or club crest. Did you ever wonder who the artist was who created them? Our current club logo and crest were created by Cal Romaneschi.

Cal worked as a graphic artist for the Boeing company, and like a lot of members, when he joined up, he wanted to contribute to the club, so he used his unique artistic talents to create our modern logo and a club crest which we still use today. His work inspired, and was incorporated into, the club 50th anniversary crest designs. He was an active diver and club member, a friend to many of us and served on the Executive Board for many years.

Cal retired from Boeing in 2009, and now lives in Valparaiso Indiana, with his wife Jackie. He has a portrait studio in their home in Valparaiso, and also builds old barn wood furniture on the side. His favorite activities are skiing, kayaking and, of course, SCUBA diving.

Cal’s SeaHorse Story

We asked Cal about his SeaHorse Dive Club experience and he told us…

“My favorite activity has always been cold water diving. I was certified in 1984 and joined the Boeing SeaHorse dive club that same year. I liked the sport so much I purchased a 38-foot Uniflite yacht, and lived on it for 8 years just so I could go diving out my back door. I even had a dive shop called Tacoma Water Sports but diving became a job, so I sold my store after a few years. The best part of being in the SeaHorse Dive Club was all the great people I got to meet and dive with. Some of my old dive buddies were Mark Sexton, Alan Gerber, Bob Burnett, Glen Godwin, Terry Thorp, Todd Osborn just to name a few. When I was the Activity Chairman, I loved to run trips to places like Neah Bay, Port Hardy, San Juan Islands, Dalco Wall. One of my favorite trips was with John Deboeck on his boat, the 61-ft. M.V. Clavella. I sure miss all the wonderful times with the best people ever. I am still diving at 70 years old but it’s all warm water Caribbean and it’s just not the same. I guess I just have cold water in my veins.”

Thank You Cal

As a thank you for what he has contributed to the club, the Executive Board voted to grant Cal a lifetime Senior Membership in the club. Even though he lives in Indiana, he can still join us virtually and be part of our SeaHorse community.
