The SeaHorse Dive Club will hold a Photoshoot at Redondo, on Thursday, June 22nd. We invite all club photographers to join in and take your best shots for fun, bragging rights, and to compete for fabulous prizes. There are 3 Categories for the competition: Macro, Wide-Angle and Above-Water.
Redondo is famous for its macro-friendly small stuff: nudis, shrimp, red octopuses and grunt sculpins to name a few. Redondo is also home to bigger game like wolf-eels, GPOs, ling cod and the occasional shark, either dogfish or if you’re extra-lucky, a sixgill.
And with the Above-Water category, you don’t even have to be an underwater photographer to join the fun. Are you a member? Do you have a phone? Sign-up, take some pics, enter your best and see what happens.
Experienced club photographers will be on-hand to talk about equipment and techniques, and answer questions. Whether you’re an expert or a novice, come and join the fun.
Dive briefing at 6:15, with the dive starting at 6:30. Hot dogs and burgers after the dive for everybody.
There are of course, a few rules:
- You may enter as many photos as you want in each category, but each photo must have been taken by the registered club member.
- All photos must have been taken during the Photoshoot event.
- Only minor corrections (cropping, brightness, contrast, color, etc.) allowed.
All participants are part of an exclusive group
All registered participants will receive a custom SeaHorse Photoshoot 2023 Participant sticker to display proudly. The only way to get one of these is to enter the contest.
Photoshoot winners will compete for Best-In-Show in the club’s Photo Contest in October
Winners of the Photoshoot move on to compete for Best-In-Show in the club’s Randy Glenn Memorial Photo & Video contest in October.
How do I enter? How do I vote?
To enter the event: Come to the event. Register at the sign-in table and receive your exclusive participant’s sticker. Take lots of awesome pictures (both underwater and/or above water) and submit your best to the contest.
You must be a SeaHorse Dive Club member at the time of the contest to enter. You can join online right up to the start of the event.
To submit photos: Sign-In with your SeaHorse Dive club account. Then go to the Photoshoot page and upload your photos.
To vote: Go to the Photoshoot page (no sign-in required), and vote for your favorites! No club membership required to vote in the contest. You can only vote for each photo once and you can’t un-vote, so choose your votes carefully. Can you vote for your own photos? Yes you can. Can your friends and family vote for your photos? Yes! So be sure to have them visit our site and vote.
But I’m not a photographer!
That’s okay. Redondo is a fantastic dive site. Come on out and dive with your fellow club members. Or take some pics for the Above-Water category. Who knows, you might even catch the photography bug.
Not a club member?
Come on out anyway. We’d love to see you. You don’t have to be a club member to come out and enjoy the afternoon with the SeaHorses, but it’s fun, and you should join. There are all sorts of benefits to being a member, but the best one is joining a community of divers who may become your dive buddies and lifelong friends.
